"They always say "never judge a book by its cover" and I'm afraid to admit when Blood Magic arrived I did just that. The first impression the cover gives is that of yet another swilling teenage horror romance that is all too often regurgitated by publishers, ever since the massively popular Twilight Saga came to ahead several years ago. Many publishers are all too keen to recreate a look akin to this genre, and I have to say, I don't think they quite grasp that whilst it draws in an extremely large crowd of stereotypical readers, it leaves another very large audience no choice but assume the worst and move onto another bookshelf.
So, after much deliberation, I picked up Blood Magic and began to read....and then couldn't put it down! My first assumptions about the book couldn't have been more wrong. Whilst the element of romance is indeed strong in this book, the author has delivered it in such an original way that I just could not help but thoroughly enjoy it.
Blood Magic follows the tale of the mysterious Silla, who discovers in herself a past she could not possibly imagine to be real. Feeling herself alone in her voyage of discovery and self recognition, she receives a shock when she is stumbled upon by a young man with an equally dark past of his own. As their friendship develops, their bond awakens incredible powers within them.
Written in magnificent, rich prose not dissimilar to the bygone novels of the Victorian gothic movement, Blood Magic will come to you as a thorough surprise, which will absolutely not leave you disappointed.
I can ask only one thing of you, readers; NEVER judge a book by its cover......
